2013 NBA Season Preview

by Daniel Badajosa and KRWG 22 Sports Anchor Albert Gamboa.
BDJ: MVP - LeBron James
ALG: MVP- LeBron James
Badajosa:  I had trouble with this one. Derrick Rose is back and better than ever. LeBron has won four out of the last five MVP awards.  Rose won the other one when he led his Bulls with the best record in the league and to the eastern conference finals but lost to James heat team. This year Rose has a better coach and team than LeBron. Which means he doesn’t have to do a lot, also he coming back from an ACL injury. LeBron needs to go all out like he did in Cleveland. He will have his best season of his career so he will be MVP.
G-Boa:  Though I agree James will win the award again, I don’t think Rose will be the only player contending for it.  You can’t forget about the second best player in the NBA, Kevin Durant will have the Thunder team all by himself for two or three months until Russell Westbrook gets back and he’s going to have to put up over 30 points a game to beat teams.  There is no way the Heat win 27 straight games again, which helped James cement the award last year.  Instead people will see how tough Durant is trying just to keep that OKC team in the playoff hunt.

NBA Finals
 BDJ: Bulls vs Thunder
ALG:  Pacers vs Spurs
Badajosa: Chicago is the toughest team in the east. And will make it tough for the Knicks, Pacers, and Heat. Derrick Rose is hungry and I believe it’s there time.
The Return
OKC will come out of the west. Westbrook will miss half the season but he will come back. KD hasn't had the best of luck his whole career but he will have an amazing year.  I also think he'll runner up for the MVP. He will be in FU mood like LeBron was before he got his first ring.
G-Boa:  That’s right! Two small market teams will make it to the NBA Finals.  What am I thinking?  The Spurs were one rebound away from being NBA champions and they essentially brought back the same team as last year.  Except, they have a better Kawhi Leonard and Marco Belinelli coming off the bench to replace Manu Ginobili .  We have no idea how the Rockets will look like, can Steph Curry be healthy once again?  The Clippers will contend but they’re the Clippers and the Spurs showed they can stand up and fight back against the bullies of Memphis.
The reason why I haven’t even mentioned OKC is because we have no Idea how Westbrook will come back (if he comes back).  Remember everyone thought Rose was coming back last year?  Too early to tell and if he does come back, how effective will he be?  Knee injuries take a while to recover even after you start playing.  It might take till next season to see his explosiveness once again.
I’ll use the same reason with Indiana as I did the Spurs, they were one game away from beating the Heat.  Guess what they did?  They got way better, sure they still have the same starting five but boy they were already great there.  Instead they fixed the part they were horrible at, their bench.  When the Pacers played Miami they couldn’t sub for long periods of time because the bench would take them out of games.  Larry Bird changed all that when he came back to front office.  He replaced all the bench players that he didn’t get and chose his type of players.
Unless Greg Oden has new knees there is no one who can stop Roy Hibbert for the Heat.  Paul George will instantly become a Top 5 player overall with the way he can guard LeBron and score on LeBron.

BDJ: Champions – Bulls   - I’m bias. The Return!
ALG:  Champions- Pacers   - All in on Indiana baby!

Monta Basketball
BDJ: Surprising Team – Dallas Mavericks
ALG: Surprising Team – Cleveland Cavilers

Badajosa: They haven’t got things to go there way the past couple of off seasons but this year they did upgrade. Although it still isn't enough, they are one player away. They got Monta Ellis, who will be better this year due to Dirk Nowitzki.  Dirk is going to do all he can to try and bust a 2011 season and be that team no one saw coming.  But this team is a second round team tops.  Rick Carlisle has a plan and the mastermind Mark Cuban always has something up his sleeve.
G-Boa:  Uncle Drew will finally make the playoffs!  Andrew Bynum will play more than 50 games and Anthony Bennett will show Americans why he was the number one pick in last year’s draft.
If my Bynum prediction is wrong forget everything I wrote.  Instead it’ll be the Wizards!  John Wall will make a leap, the Gortat trade makes sense and Bradley Beal will score.  Don’t forget Otto Porter Jr. will be a cool name to say.

Badajosa: This is how I see the division and numbers mean seeding in playoffs.

Atlantic- *4 Nets  *5 Knicks  *8 Raptors  Sixers  Celtics.
That dude in jeans doesn't care about the Luxury Tax.
---G-Boa: Agree with the order but the Sixers will be the worst team in the NBA this season and the Raptors won’t make the playoffs.

Central- 1* Bulls  3*Pacers  *4 Pistons *6 Cavs  Bucks.
---G-Boa:  Agree with the number one seed but not because the Bulls are the better team but the Heat won’t go all out in the regular season and will just focus on staying healthy for the postseason.  They know they can win on the road so home court won’t matter that much for them.

Southeast- *2 Heat  *7 Hawks   Wizards   Bobcats   Magic.
---G-Boa:  Guess who’s getting that 8th seed?  The Wizards!

Pacific- *3 Clippers *4 Warriors  Lakers   Kings    Suns
---G-Boa: The West is soooo loaded which is great because the Lakers won’t be in the playoffs!  BOLD PREDICTION --> The other LA team will be the number one seed in the West!  See why in the next division.

Southwest *2 Spurs   *5 Rockets   *6 Grizzlies   *7 Mavericks   PeliCANS
---G-Boa:  The Spurs could be the number one seed but Gregg Popovich will rest his starters in some games and there is always one team in the west that makes a leap.  Last season was the Warriors this year will be the Clippers.  Doc Rivers is a huge upgrade from Vinny Del Negro.

Northwest *1 OKC   *8 nuggets   t-wolves   blazers   jazz
---G-Boa:  It’s going to be a big battle for that 7th and 8th seed.  If Minnesota stays healthy (that’s a big IF) they’ll be in there but if it’s the same old injury prone wolves then Portland will snag a spot.  I’m low for OKC, I say they get a three or fourth seed.

Best of the rest – West

----Badajosa:  Clippers - They have a new coach in charge and his name is Doc Rivers. After what many called him a quitter after leaving the Celtics. Cp3 will be better under Doc and his game plan so Lob city is stronger.  After all they have a stand on LAX and the Lakers don't.
You get a three pointer, you get a three pointer etc.
----G-Boa:  Lakers   Trail Blazers- They still have LaMarcus Aldridge and they upgraded their bench.  Damian Lillard’s sophomore season! Nic Batum will have a chance to bounce back after an average season last year.
----Badajosa:  Warriors - Splash brothers are back! If Curry stays healthy this team can go all the way. They can make it rain real quick.  This is the "fun team" to watch.
----G-Boa:  PeliCANS- Anthony Davis is going to be really good and when you see him face the Rockets or Grizzlies people will see why.  They added Tyreke Evans and Jrue Holiday at guards which means Austin Rivers won’t be on the floor shooting bricks anymore.
----Badajosa:  Rockets – Dwight Howard is with another team after not being happy with the Lakers and Kobe.  James Harden has proven to be the best shooting guard in the league.

Best of the rest - East
----Badajosa:  Nets - this is basically the new Celtics. They have Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry.  Deron Williams, more importantly, doesn't have to be the leader because the new players will be in charge because they've been there and done that.  Also, this group of players will make Kidd coaching easy.
----Badajosa:  Knicks - everyone is hoping for Amare to stay healthy for once.  When he is they have a chance.  After all, look at the Suns team from years ago.  Carmelo needs to pass the ball!  People talk about Kobe not passing; they should be doing it with this guy.  For the offseason the Knicks got tougher with Metta World Peace joining the team.  This is the best New York team in years.   Can’t forget about JR Smith, he’s going to ball out.                                                                                                                                                              ----Badajosa:  Pistons – Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith being added to the team is big and now the Palace will be rocking again.  If this team doesn't butt heads with each other they will be hard to beat.
----G-Boa:  Celtics – Damn right I put the tanking Celtics in this and here’s why.  What’s going to happen to Rajon Rondo?  Will they trade him or rebuild around him?  BOLD PREDICTION à Rondo won’t play this season (but the Celtics will keep him) and the Celtics will win the NBA Lottery to draft Andrew Wiggins!
